What Is This Texture & How Was This Digital Asset Created?

Visually, this texture captures the aggressive circular wear patterns found on rotary-sanded steel plates, heavily skated concrete bowls, scuffed warehouse floors, and weathered vinyl record sleeves (ring wear).

To create genuine kinetic scratch geometry, this asset was produced through physical mechanical abrasion in a workshop environment:

Rotary Sanding & Wire-Brush Distressing: A primed sheet of cold-rolled industrial metal and smooth masonite board was worked over using an orbital grinder fitted with 40-grit silicon-carbide discs and twisted steel wire brushes. Varying the hand pressure produced a chaotic mix of sweeping circular gouges, skidding heel-like scuffs, and fine micro-scratches.

Charcoal Pigment Rubbing: Raw powdered charcoal and grease pigment were rubbed into the freshly abraded grooves and wiped away from the raised flats, creating intense contrast inside every swirling scratch.

High-Resolution Capture & Alpha Extraction: The distressed plate was photographed under diffused overhead studio lighting, refined with high-pass tonal curves, and stripped of its background to produce a clean, lossless transparent PNG.

Creative Applications & Technical Workflow in Design Software

This swirling abrasion texture is an essential asset for sports graphics, rock and metal album covers, automotive posters, streetwear graphics, and 3D surface texturing.

1. Using as an Overlay Texture (Blend Modes & Surface Wear)

Scuffed Print & Vinyl Ring-Wear Effect (Multiply Mode): Place the PNG over album art, posters, or typography and set the layer blend mode to Multiply. The dark circular scuffs immediately make fresh digital artwork look like a battered, well-traveled physical artifact.

Brushed Metal & Ice Scratch Highlights (Screen Mode): Invert the texture (Ctrl/Cmd + I) so the dark swirls turn bright white, and switch the blend mode to Screen or Color Dodge. Placed over dark metallic gradients, hockey graphics, or camera lens overlays, it simulates realistic light catching on scratched metal or carved ice.

Logo & Typography Distressing (Layer Masking): Copy the texture into a Layer Mask on your vector logo or headline text. The sweeping circular arcs will carve authentic, non-repetitive scratches right through your lettering.

2. Using as a Base Background

Industrial & Skate Culture Backdrops: Use the texture as a gritty foundation for grunge flyers, action-sports thumbnails, or urban apparel tags. Because the heaviest swirl concentration sits on the right side fading toward the left, it naturally guides the viewer's eye across the composition.

3D Roughness & Bump Mapping: Import this texture into Blender, Substance Painter, or Cinema 4D and plug it into the Roughness or Bump channel of a metallic or concrete shader to create realistic rotary wear and surface imperfections.

Technical Guide: How to Download, Customize Colors & Choose the Right Background

Use our interactive browser tool above to customize and download this circular scratch texture for your exact workflow.

Step 1: Selecting Your Background Mode Before Downloading

In the preview panel, choose the background preset that fits your software pipeline:

Transparent PNG: Best for non-destructive layering over photos, illustrations, and logos in Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, and Affinity Photo.

Solid White ( Choose a solid background when exporting grayscale texture maps for 3D roughness/bump channels or luminosity mattes in After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.

Custom Hex Color Background: Click the custom color swatch to place any solid hex color behind the dark scuff marks—such as concrete gray (#D1D5DB), grunge olive (#4B5320), or crimson red (#991B1B). This allows you to export a finished industrial background directly for Canva or web design projects.

Step 2: Choosing Resolution & Saving Your PNG

Under Select Download Size, pick the resolution scale you need:

Full (100% Original): Captures every razor-sharp hairline scratch and micro-smudge for 300 DPI print and 4K compositing.

Medium (50%) or Small (25%): Perfect for web banners, social media posts, and lightweight UI overlays.

Click Download Image to save the lossless .png file.

Step 3: Recoloring the Scratches in Design Software

Metallic Scratch Tinting: In Photoshop or Procreate, clip a metallic gold, silver, or copper texture/gradient directly onto the transparent scratch layer so the circular scuffs gleam like exposed raw metal over a painted surface.
